If you have never dressed your pup in clothes before, you should not wait until Halloween night to do this. Instead, start now. If you have a costume in mind, go buy it and try to put a piece of it on your pet. Usually, the first piece people try is the main costume. As soon as you get it on, your pet may start to fight you. Praise him for looking great and pet him in a way that makes it harder for him to get out of his costume. You may have to give a lot of attention, but most dogs will eventually start to equate your happiness with them wearing these items.
When you are tacking on hats and other small extra pieces of clothing, you may need even more patience. This concept makes no sense to your pooch and may take a lot of work to make them get used to it.
Add a piece at a time until you are able to put the whole costume on your pet. Then keep doing it until Halloween so they don’t get out of the habit and change their mind when you are ready to go out.

Some animals are not going to like the idea of being put in clothes, no matter what you try. At some point you just have to give it up. Dog costumes are the latest trend out his year. Halloween is going to be huge, with every man and his dog out there trick or treating. Fancy dress parties are back with a twist. You tube and LOL dogs are going to be over run with videos of our dogs in costumes.
A dog costume is quite simply a costume for a dog. It can also be a costume for a human that makes the human look like a dog. I am interested in both, actually. You cannot have one without the other, with the leash laws and all.
The best dog costumes are the fancy-dress-costume-party costumes. The trick or treat Halloween costumes are pretty cool, too. You can dress your dog up to represent almost anything. I love the hot dog costumes. They are almost good enough to eat. Only kidding!
There are all sorts of costumes based on themes like fairy tales or superheroes. The costumes vary in complexity as well as subject. Some are most elaborate and very complicated to wear. Some are as simple as tying a cape to your super hero’s collar. It does not matter in the end how complex your costume is the thing that matters is the fun you and your dog get out of dressing up.
Dog costumes can be made at home, for the simpler costumes or bought ready-made for the more complex versions. I prefer to buy mine because I am lazy and I like to have people talk about how great my dogs look in their costumes.
My dogs love to dress up in their dog costumes while I parade around in my costume. We try to stick to a theme. I love the Cat In The Hat dog costumes because there are a few different characters and they come in sizes to suit all dogs and people. The black, red and white theme looks good on everyone too.

Grab some clothing you no longer wear stored in your attic or basement and put it on your pet. If it gets rid of it then lightly tie it on. Stay with the animal for a while and assure it that it’s okay. Even distract it with a biscuit or other piece of food so it’s attention is not on the clothing.

Does anyone know where I can get a Halloween costume for my dog?
I want to find a Halloween costume for my dog. It is a gold weighing about 75-80 lbs. I did want to enter a contest snacks Scooby Doo. Yeah I know it's a bit ridiculous. It is so cute. I need to find a costume big enough for him. Any suggestions where to look?
Do not feel it's ridiculous! I just met two friends and their dogs at the pumpkin patch so we can take pictures of them playing in the hay and running around the pumpkins! Nevertheless, the Most pet stores carry pet costumes dog. Even stores like Target, Kmart, things like that. Check online too. There are great costumes there. Good luck!

Last-Minute Ideas for Homemade Dog Costumes
Are you ready to start the party and forgot just one little thing — to dress up your pooch, so that he can enjoy and have fun, too?! Here is a quick and easy last-minute dog costume idea!
Please think safety when dressing up your dog in homemade pet costumes. The costume should fit neither too tight, so your dog’s movements are not confined, nor too loose, so he does not trip over the costume. Not all dogs are fine with wearing a costume, so if your dog does not like it, take off the costume immediately.
This is the easiest homemade dog costume possible, because all you need is:
– a T-Shirt that you are willing to sacrifice for your dog (for a smaller dog you may use your child’s T-shirt);
– a needle and a thread;
– a few safety pins for tailoring;
– scissors;
– your dog.
Time required: 15 minutes (excluding time required for choosing the T-shirt).
Instructions on how to make Halloween dog costume:
The front of the T-shirt goes on the dog’s back, so choose the shirt and decorations on it accordingly.
The easiest way to tailor the shirt is to have your dog standing up right and to put the shirt on the dog. Front paws go through the sleeves and decorations go on the dog’s back. It is likely that your shirt would be too large on your dog, so note any excessive parts and pin them down. You will cut them off later. Leave some space at the bottom of the shirt so your dog can relieve himself and not dirty the costume.
Take off the shirt (after you’ve pinned excessive parts, the shirt should still come off easily). Adjust safety pins as necessary and cut off excessive fabric. Turn your shirt and hand-sew the two parts together. You can even use sewing machine, if you like. Turn back. Your homemade dog costume is ready and now you can get Halloween party started!

History of Halloween, Halloween costumes
Halloween is coming and you are planning on celebrating Halloween. Are you looking for creative and interesting costumes for your kids, yourself and, of course, Halloween pet costumes for your dog or cat? You want your pet to share fun with you. It will be great time.
But do you know about the origin of this festival? If not, have a look at the history of Halloween.
Halloween - Where Did It Come From?
For years now, families – particularly in the US – have struggled with ever-increasing bad effects of a night spent exalting horror. Hospitals and authorities advise that parents examine or x-ray treats and that people be in their homes by 10 pm. Candies are poisoned, properties damaged, and vandalism has increased, all in the name of Halloween.
Halloween is considered a typically American festival and a fairly recent one – since America itself is a recent entrant in the annals of world history. Folks are happy enough to put on outlandish costumes and go trick or treating, but few will have paused to reflect on the origins of this slightly macabre revelry. It would be foolish, of course, to attribute it to the Puritans who came over on the Mayflower – they would have been horrified at what they would have considered pagan hedonism. So who started these semi-sinful shenanigans? Some conservatives would doubtless like to lay it at the door of godless Democrats.
Modern day Halloween has become a mixture of several religious practices and a children’s holiday.
However, a look at the history of Halloween will illustrate how mixed up this confusing holiday has really become.
The origin of Halloween dates back before Christ. The Celts, who lived more than two thousand years ago, in the region that is now Ireland, Britain and Northern France, celebrated their New Year on November 1st – which they called the feast of Samahin. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest season and the beginning of the cold, dark winter – a time of year that was associated with death.
The Celts’ mythology taught that with the coming of winter, came a night in which the spirits of the dead could freely roam about with humans. Some of these spirits would inflict suffering and violence upon man. The Celts believed that the presence of these supernatural beings on earth made it easier for their priests – known as Druids – to make predictions about the future. For a people who had not yet discovered science, these predictions were an important source of comfort and guidance during the long, dark winter.
To appease the spirits and the gods that were worshipped, the Druids would erect huge bonfires and put out their best food offerings on the doorstep. Celtic priests would also offer sacrifices, animal and human, to the gods to ask for a return of the sun and in hopes that the gods would chase away the evil, frightening spirits. Often, the Celts would wear dreadful costumes, hoping to fool an evil spirit with the disguise. There are practices from the history of Halloween that are still being practiced today.
By 43 A.D., the Romans had conquered most of Celtic territory. During the four hundred years that they ruled over the Celtic lands, two festivals of Roman origin were combined with the traditional Celtic feast of Samahin.
The first was Feralia, a day in late October, when the Romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the souls of the dead into the next world.
The second was to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the Apple tree – and the incorporation of this celebration into Samahin is probably the origin of "bobbing" for apples that is practiced today on Halloween.
By 800 A.D., the influence of Christianity had spread to Celtic territories. In the Seventh Century, Pope Boniface IV designated November 1st as All Saints Day, to commemorate Catholic saints and martyrs. The pope was probably attempting to replace the Celtic festival of the dead with a related, but church-sanctioned holiday. The holiday was also known as All Hallows Eve, which later became Halloween. It was celebrated with big bonfires, parades and dressing up as saints, angels and devils. (Trick or treating is exclusively a modern day Yankee add-on).
While the history of Halloween explains much about where modern day Halloween customs come from, (the origin of Halloween customs were brought to this country in the 1800’s by the Irish), what about the modern day practices of the occults?
Occults find their rituals associated with the same source, a time when the dead can easily communicate with the living therefore making divinations and sacrifices during the fall season opportune. In truth, the origin of Halloween has its root in Satan, the author of deception. "…. for he (the devil) is a liar and the father of it." (John 8:44)
It is interesting how much modern day American practices and modern day witchcraft have in common with the ancient beliefs of the Celtic people – although these days Halloween has become more of an excuse to have a good time. The religious significance has become obscured and virtually forgotten: which is probably just as well. Deutronomy (verse 17:10) tells us "There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through fire, or that useth divination or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch." Reflecting on that grim pronouncement would take all the fun out of it.

You see, we put my dog in a program to find a good house, because I had to go to college (last fall) and my mom could not take care of her, she had an accident and was passing surgery. Her name is Annabelle, she is a breed yellow Lab she is 3 years 4 in February and should be in the area south of Florida I think about while I'm Boca Palm Beach. In pet stores shoes are also available for pets. This will help in keeping them warm and free of dirt. There will also not be paw marks inside the home. Reflective vests should be worn by pets when they are taken out by the owners. This will help in keeping track of them. Also, people on the road will be able to see them and avoid them during the night.
The costumes for pets are available in all the three sizes – small, medium and large. It is necessary to have an idea about the size of the pet when buying for them. The weight of the pet should be taken into account. The length from the base of the neck to the whole body without the tail should be measured. The shoes should be bought to the size of the paws which can be measured from the longest toenail. The exact size is necessary so that the pet feels comfortable. The dress should not be too restrictive or too loose. The dress should not be such that the pet can chew on it.
With so much variety in clothes, if scarves, hats and other accessories are added, a new look can be created for the pet during Halloween. Instead of masks a little paint can be used to alter the look of the pet. Generally all the costumes can be used for both dogs and cats. Dogs can be made to look like cats with large ears attached to them and cats can be made to look like dogs with drooping ears attached to them. All this dressing up will add to the fun and some pets will also enjoy it.

Lovely Lady Bee over at InventorSpot has posted her collection of the best pet Halloween costumes of 2009. I think my fave is the doggy joker costume, which is strangely pimpish.
