All dogs don’t share their owners’ enthusiasm for designer clothes and, unless you want to risk a tooth and nail struggle every time, let the introduction to fashion be in a slow, gradual manner.

Designer Clothes for Dogs:
When I first heard there were designer clothes for dogs, I wasn’t really surprised. Humans can’t suffer alone, they need to spread around the pain, so, yes, why not?

I wondered what the dogs themselves thought about it and the antique expression ‘Real Men Don’t Cry’ came to mind, ahem, designing itself to ‘Real Dogs Don’t Dress-Up’.

My own dogs howled down the idea. They like to think of themselves as a rough-tough lot. I pointed out that wasn’t really the case. After all, it’s not like they are the sort that live out in kennels, get to eat only scraps and get starved of over-affection. But, they said, we are definitely the sort that would rather have a rollicking time in muddy, grassy fields than primp about with the designer nail-paint and the designer perfume, aren’t we? That, I said, is more about me than you – I’d rather wash you any day than your designer clothes.

Besides not being a designer clothes person myself, I guess I’m biased against getting designer clothes for my dogs. A good many people aren’t and there is in fact a growing market for this fashion segment. People are willing to pay anything from $20 to $500 to $12000 and up for exclusive designs for their dogs. If you like designing clothes and love dogs, this is a good time to plunge yourself into the business.

Reasons for getting Designer Clothes for Dogs:
Here are some reasons people like to dress up their dogs -

They love their dogs to such an extent that breed lines blur between humans and canines.
They look upon their pets as an extension of their family and want the very best for them.
They think their dogs look cute dressed up.
They have enough disposable income and time on their hands.
They have no children, just this one very pampered pooch and even the sky’s not the limit for dressing up the darling.
They have children, but, like I said, breed lines have blurred, and what they get for the kid, they get for the pup.
They want to keep up with the latest fashion trends and, if you believed the gossip columns, all the celebrities are dressing up their dogs in designer clothes.
They want to protect their pets from bad weather conditions.
They want to , especially on walks along muddy roads.

Types of Designer Clothes for Dogs:
There are various kinds of designer clothes you can get for your pet. One designer I came across online had over 300 different and beautiful designs.

You can get handmade outfits in prewashed, non-shrinkable material.
You can get outfits that are custom-made specially for your pet, according to her or his measurements.
You get any dog costume you want in any color, design, size, fabric, embroidery and embellishments.
You can get T-shirts, tank tops, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, sweaters, coats and jackets.
You can get evening gowns, wedding dresses and suits.
You can get sports and swim wear.
You can get party and fancy costumes for Halloween, Christmas and so on.
You can get raincoats.

Getting your dog to wear designer clothes:
Given the sheer variety of doggie designer wear, you can probably shop until you drop for your dog. But, once you’re home from the shopping trip, how do you get Rover to cooperate about trying on the stuff?

All dogs don’t share their owners’ enthusiasm about clothes and, unless you want to risk a tooth and nail struggle every time, introduce your dog to fashion in a slow, gradual manner.

Put on clothes for short durations so the dog becomes accustomed to wearing them. You may have to distract the dog with toys at first so he/she doesn’t give the designer wear instant teeth treatment.
Get clothes that fit well, neither too tight nor too loose. You don’t want your dog to develop breathing or circulation problems – speaking of which, I guess it’s a plus point for our pets that we don’t live in the Age of Corsets anymore – and neither do you want your pet to stumble over the designer clothes all the time.
Get clothes that won’t impede the dog’s free movements.
Get clothes that won’t get in the way when the dog wants to pee or shit.
Get clothes that are easy to clean.

Halloween Cats

Once upon a time it was believed that black cats were the devil or consumed by evil spirits. For more information about Halloween cats, read on.

The wind was making weird sounds this full moon night. It blew against the trees pushing with all its might in an effort to pull it out of its roots. But the trees stood steadfast and moved their branches about, as if to scare the wind away. There further up the hill along the dark and deserted road, was a hut. Outside the hut sat an old lady with 5 children surrounding her. They looked at her with anticipation and jaws open wide. She was not concerned about them at the moment, instead she stared at the logs that had been collected in front of the hut; then she looked around and stared at the sky and in a loud and clear voice said, "I command you to stop blowing." At that very instant, the wind stopped blowing and everything stood still. Slowly she stretched her long fingers towards the logs and lit them by striking her fingers. Then she cleared her throat and began to tell the zealous listeners, the story of Halloween and the significance of cats.

Halloween, she began, was originally the New Years Eve of the Celts also known as Winter’s eve or the eve of Samhain. At this time people believed that the dead or disembodied spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies which they could possess the next year. Of course since the people who were alive did not want to be possessed by the lost souls, they would make their homes cold and inhospitable and wear ghoulish costumes and parade around the city making noise in order to frighten the spirits away.

Slowly she moved on to cats. Cats, she said were worshiped by Gods in Ancient Egypt, later on this creature was persecuted. Regarded as evil creatures, it was said that their teeth and breath were both poisonous. Even the hair of a cat could suffocate an unsuspecting peasant who was foolish enough to swallow it. Being secretive nocturnal animals further convinced people that they were the supernatural servants of witches or even the witch herself if she were capable of shape shifting.

The earliest record of cat persecution was in 962 A.D, in the northeastern town of Metz in France. It was the second Wednesday of Lent and the ceremony of Cat Wednesday was held in which hundreds of local cats that were believed to be witches in disguise were burnt alive. The official persecution was initiated by Pope Gregory IX, which lasted for the next eight centuries. After that Pope Innocent VIII issued another papal bull in 1484 that condemned a witch’s cat and said that it was to be burned alive with her at her execution.

Witchcraft and magic were associated with the black cat. It was believed that the Prince of Darkness himself borrowed the coat of a black cat to torment his victims. The scenario is the same in some cultures even today. During the 16th and 17th century 100,000 witches were executed in Germany, England was not far behind with 30,000 and then came along France with a further 75,000. With the death of cats the rodent population thrived. It was at this time that the importance of cats was recognized and it was suggested that they would only be exploited to destroy the vermin population and never shown any affection.

In the war against sorcery many heinous tasks were committed against humans and felines. It was in 1712, that the last execution of a cat for witchcraft took place. Thank God for that!

4. If your best buddy gets stressed and worried, and does not liking the costume idea, forget it. A simple doggy t-shirt, Halloween collar or bandana may be a better alternative.

1. The correct fit is important – it should not be constricting.

2. Avoid impeding the breathing, hearing, sight, movement or barking.

3. The costume should not result in overheating.

4. The costume should be checked for things that may be poisonous or that may choke your doggy.

5. A dog should not at any time be left unattended when wearing a costume.

6. Remove rubber bands.

Safety on Halloween – Inside the Home

1. Be careful that your pet does not run out the door while you are tending to trick or treaters.

2. It is a good idea to have a reflector on your dog; it may save him from being hit by a car if he gets loose.

3. Have ID on your dog just in case he does get loose.

4. If your dog is a tad nervous and really not a party animal, consider keeping him on a leash, crated or in another room while trick or treaters are coming to the door.

5. Candy and wrappers will be everywhere on Halloween but they must be kept away from pets. A chew toy or a canine treat should keep him satisfied so that he does not feel left out.

Safety on Halloween – Outside

1. Do not leave your dog outside on Halloween. Every Halloween pets are stolen, tormented, tortured and injured.

2. Be cautious when walking your dog on Halloween. You never know what your pet may pick up along the way.

3. Do have your buddy on a leash and make sure he is wearing a collar and a identification tag when out with the family and take a few of his favorite treats or biscuits along so he will feel part of the excitement.

4. Keep your dog away from jack-o-lanterns. Place lighted candles and pumpkins where they can’t be knocked over by pets.

Traditionally, Halloween night has been an occasion for kids, and often for their parents as well, to dress up in fancy costumes and go trick or treating about the houses in the neighborhood.

And nowadays, it appears that the family pet is not to be deprived of its share of the fun, and is also brought along to add to the familial spirit of the festival. From taking the dog or the cat along, it is but a simple step if you want to make the pet a full-fledged participant in the revelries: why not dress the pet up in a pet Halloween costume?

The idea may appear to be a bit weird or even funny but consider: firstly, Halloween is the night that you are licensed to be weird; and secondly there are scores of festivals and competitions organized all over the USA at which people dress up their pets for fun and games. So then there’s no reason why your pet can’t put on a Halloween costume and join in the fun.

Pet Halloween costumes are in fact getting increasingly popular and are readily available at all the major pet stores and even departmental stores like Wal-mart and Target have separate sections for pet Halloween costumes.

Since this is still a niche market, the costumes are somewhat expensive, but depending on the sum you wish to spend you can choose anything from simple dresses to those which are not less elaborate than the most complicated human Halloween costumes.

So you can dress up your cat, dog or pet iguana as a princess, a fairy, a devil, or for that matter even a cow. The choice is simply amazing. But when purchasing that costume, be sure to size it correctly. Since the pets are not generally used to wearing dresses, much less elaborate ones, a costume which is a bit too large can cause the pet to trip up, or it may even manage to wriggle out of it.

In consideration of this last problem, it may not only be simpler but also more effective to make your own pet Halloween costume. You are likely to find all the items you require already in your house.

A simple pet Halloween costume need be nothing more than a hat! So for that perfect Halloween dress for your pet, get yourself an old hat and attach a Velcro strip, two pieces of string or even a belt, whatever is handy, to act as a fastener.

But before the actual show time, it might be a good idea to get the pet accustomed to wear the hat. Provided it has had some practice, the pet shouldn’t try to get it off, and all would be well. You could also try and add some accessories to the plain hat, such as a pair of sunglasses or a bandanna. The super-pet is sure to impress the neighbors and get a little extra candy on the night.

You could also try some more elaborate Halloween costumes for your pet. So for instance, you could coordinate the costume for the pet with the ones that your children are wearing: if your child is in a puppy costume, how about having your dog dress up as a mommy, nurse or a nanny. Or if the dog is rather small, you could dress it up as a baby in swaddling clothes and make your child play the role of the nurse with a pram.

The range of things you could do to make your pet a part of your Halloween festivities are boundless: by your effort, imagination and creativity you are sure to come up with a great Halloween costume for your pet.

We have already begun to prepare for Halloween this year. I had a lot of new decorations this year. My husband is equally excited and me and the children. He sometimes goes over the limit when it comes to Halloween. He filled our yard with a lot of scary things. He even bought some sound effects of this year to make things even more halloweenish. It is really getting a kick off planning for Halloween. The boys are helping with all the ups and son together, he must do. Each time they leave home, they return with even more decorations. I can hardly wait to see where he plans to put this. There was also talk of creating a small haunted house thing, but I put a stop to it. We can not afford going crazy on Halloween to Christmas just around the corner.

So we had to set limits of our Halloween decor. He found an online store that sold lots of Halloween decorations at very fair price. I must admit he has found a perfect place to buy supplies for Halloween. I liked the accessories and sets so I gave him the green light to order. I really liked the fog juice, it has ordered. It makes things even spookier. Another much I agree with the guy down zombie. It is really neat. We will hang just above the top step on the porch. He also robbed a voice changer and a hand Icky crawl to the bowl of candy. I thought they were all in the decorations, maybe they have a great costume babies and older children and baby costumes haloween. There were many choices for the costumes for the whole family. You can find several costumes newborn and others for each age group. This would be an ideal place to get our costumes two babies and two older children.
